Ice Moon Elegy (for Richard Lainhart)

In memory of composer and performer Richard Lainhart, who passed away on December 30, 2011. He was only five years older than me. His work and example has been, and will remain, a source of inspiration and encouragement.

This is nearly the same setup I used on Abyss, with the addition of a Moogefooger ring modulator in the drone signal path. As in that track, the underlying drone is provided by a self-oscillating distortion pedal that passes through several other boxes, on top of which I’m playing a feedback-looped Deluxe Memory Man which is patched into the mixer’s effects loop. Recorded this afternoon as a single live take and edited only to remove silence from the beginning and ending.

Ice Moon is one of the names of the full moon that officially begins tomorrow.
